Question of African Independence

Views on African independence can be divided into three major categories, as follows:

1. The colonial rulers, out of goodwill, granted independence, for which Africans had previously been given the necessary training.

2. The African people, through mass nationalist parties, wrested political independence from the colonizers through struggle.

3. With malice and deep strategy, the colonial powers themselves promoted the handover of the trappings of sovereignty, so that African independence meant false decolonization.
